Managing your files

1:14Updated 2026-07-14getting started

Beyond browsing, My Drive gives you every operation you need to keep your files organized. Watch the tour above, or follow the steps below.

1
Create a folder

Click New folder, give it a name, and it's ready in an instant — the easiest way to group related files together.

2
Upload from your device

Hit Upload, pick a file, and it lands straight in your drive.

3
Rename

Files often arrive with messy, auto-generated names. Choose Rename and give it a title you'll actually recognize.

4
Copy vs. move

Copy duplicates a file into another folder while the original stays put. Move relocates the file itself — send it straight into its folder and it's filed away.

5
Drag & drop

Even quicker: grab a file and drag it onto a folder. Drop it, and it's done.

6
Open & delete

Open a folder to see everything filed inside. And when you don't need something anymore, Delete removes it in a single click.
